Care Guide
It is extremely important to follow the below guidelines to ensure your hair extensions are well maintained.
Hair Products
For maintaining the softness of your hair extensions and avoid tangles, matting, or shedding, it's crucial to use the right products. We highly recommend checking the ingredients of hair products before using on your extensions. Steer clear of formulas containing Ethanol, Parabens, Phosphates, Propanol, Sulphates and any form of alcohol, including isopropyl and protein, including wheat, or silk amino acids.
When it comes to conditioning, using hairsprays, oils, or dry shampoos, be mindful not to apply them directly to the root area of your extensions.
While purple, blue, and silver toning shampoos can be effective for tone maintenance, excessive use may cause discolouration and dryness in your extensions. Avoid using them too frequently or leaving them on for extended periods.
Washing
To prevent oil and product build-up, it's recommended to wash your hair extensions at least twice a week. However, be cautious as over-washing can lead to dryness and tangling. Wait for a minimum of 48 hours after new hair extension application before washing your hair.
Drying & Styling
After washing, allow your extensions to air dry whenever possible. Prioritize using a heat protectant before applying any heat styling tools, as it forms a protective barrier around the hair shaft. When using a hair dryer or flat iron, opt for low to medium heat settings. Pointing the hair dryer downwards not only smooths the cuticle but also reduces the risk of tangles. Keep in mind that excessive heat from styling tools can cause discolouration and dryness. For V-Light hair extensions, avoid exposing the v-light glue to any heat, so as to maintain their integrity and longevity.
Colouring & Toning
Avoid harsh treatments like bleaching, perming, or chemical straightening, as these can severely damage your extensions. If necessary, consult a professional experienced with hair extensions for colouring or tinting. Always conduct a spot test beforehand due to the extensions' porous nature.
Brushing
To prevent tangles, it's best to gently brush your extensions 1-2 times daily. We recommend using our anti-static hair extension brush for optimal results. Avoid brushing wet extensions, as they are more vulnerable to breakage during this time.
Sleeping
Before bedtime, ensure your extensions are completely dry and loosely braided to prevent tangling and matting while you sleep. Consider using our satin pillowcase to minimize tangles.
Sunlight & UV
Sunlight naturally lightens extensions, and can cause them to lighten more quickly than your natural hair. To preserve their colour and integrity, it's advisable to shield your extensions from direct sunlight by using hats or towels when spending time outdoors.
Sunscreen & Fake Tan
Protecting your extensions from potential discolouration is crucial. Sunscreen, even through incidental contact, can alter their colour, often resulting in a pink or orange hue. Likewise, fake tanning solutions can also cause discolouration. To safeguard your extensions, consider using a hair net, especially around the hairline, when applying spray or fake tan.
Water Quality
Hard water, containing high mineral content, can leave limescale and residue on your extensions. Unlike natural hair, extensions lack the scalp's natural oil production to counterbalance these minerals. Consequently, repeated exposure to hard water can result in discolouration, dryness, tangling and breakage.
Swimming
Before swimming, rinse your extensions with clean water to saturate them, reducing absorption of chlorinated or saltwater. Tie your extensions in a low ponytail and plait or braid to prevent tangling while swimming. Afterward, rinse immediately with fresh water and apply conditioner or a nourishing oil to maintain hydration.
Shedding & Tangling
Hair extensions, like natural hair, may experience some shedding and tangling. Proper care, including using our Orchid Oil to restore hydration, can reduce these issues. Dry, brittle extensions are more prone to shedding and tangling, emphasizing the importance of correct care and hydration.
Seamless Clip-in Hair Extensions
Clip-in and Halo hair extensions typically do not require frequent washing unless worn regularly. It's essential to avoid over-washing, as this can result in dryness and tangling. We advise against sleeping with clip-in or halo extensions in place, as this practice can cause damage to both your natural hair and your extensions. To safeguard and store your extensions, consider utilizing our custom protection storage bag designed specifically for this purpose.
